PedalArt is a annual bike poster show that is held every May for bike month in Des Moines, IA. 30 local artists are selected to make bike-themed posters to show and sell to the general public. This was my first year participating in PedalArt and I had a lot of fun coming up with this poster design
My idea was to take two things I love and combine them together. As a kid, I was obsessed with pinball. There is a video of me when I was 5 getting a hand-held pinball game that I still have to this day. Yes, it still works too! Reminiscing about my childhood I decided to take my hobby of biking and combining it was the nostalgia of my youth. Pinball machines have always had cool artwork so making one that was tailored to biking seem like a great fit for a poster. I added fun items you would encounter out on a ride such a gravel and steep inclines. The color scheme I chose was bright and vibrant because all pinball machines are bright and colorful. The bright colors also resembled the lights you would see on an actual machine. Overall I was really happy with my idea and loved getting to do this as a fun side project to exercise my illustration skills.
